CATHOLIC MEN, HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT JOINING THE KNIGHTS? More Information can be found at the bottom of this page.
I AM A KNIGHT

We are Catholic men building a bridge back to faith. There is much more in this world. Good work. Necessary work. And that's what the Knights do Every day.
Assisting the sick and disabled. Protecting those who can't protect themselves. Whether they are next door or halfway around the world. This is the journey we are on. Our path.
We do it to be better husbands, fathers, sons, neighbors and Catholics. We invest our time, our effort, and our resources into our values. Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism.
We come from many places. And backgraounds. And stages in our lives. But we are all of one faith. A fraternity of men striving to better ourselves and our world.
It's one thing to say who you are. It's another to live it. To put your values into action. That's what we do at the Knights of Coumbus.
     That's who we are.

On the delightful evening of Friday, June 6th, the Father Capodanno Assembly 2413 came together in the spirit of camaraderie and unity at St. Jude Parish Hall in beautiful Lewes, DE, for their much-anticipated Annual Dinner/Dance. With the mouthwatering catering by Nicola Pizza, the air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of delicious food that beckoned attendees to savor every bite. The gathering was not just a feast for the stomach but also a celebration of fellowship, as Third Degree Knights were warmly invited to join their Fourth Degree brethren, creating an atmosphere rich in connection and joy. The Father Capodanno Assembly, as the Patriotic Degree of the Knights of Columbus, exemplifies the council's unwavering commitment to community and faith, reminding us all that together we can achieve great things. The event was graced by the presence of Paul Dombrowski, the Faithful Navigator of the assembly and a proud member of the Msgr. Desmond Council in Lewes, who surely had his hands full ensuring everyone was having a fantastic time! So, if you missed this wonderful occasion, mark your calendars for next year—after all, who wouldn’t want to enjoy great food, laughter, and the warmth of friendship while supporting the noble mission of service and support that binds our community together?

HELPING RELIGIOUS ED
Picture
Council Faith Director Carlo Borgia presents a donation to Director of Religious Education Marie Kopf at St. Edmond Parish.

𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗗𝗢 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗟
Many things happen during the Catholic Mass that we often participate in without fully knowing their meaning. Sometimes, even practicing Catholics find themselves wondering:
"Why do we do this?"
"What does that gesture mean?"
One of those moments of quiet mystery happens just before the Gospel reading, when the priest or deacon proclaims:
“A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew...”
The congregation responds:
"Glory to you, O Lord,"
and at that moment, everyone makes three small signs of the Cross—on the forehead, lips, and heart.
But why?
The Meaning Behind the Gesture:
This triple sign of the Cross is more than a ritual—it’s a silent prayer. With this gesture, each Catholic is asking:
1. On the forehead: May the Word of God be in my thoughts.
2. On the lips: May the Word of God be on my lips and in my speech.
3. On the heart: May the Word of God live in my heart and shape my love.
It is a personal moment of devotion and preparation, asking God that His Gospel may transform our minds, guide our words, and purify our hearts.
A Beautiful Tradition
This practice has roots going back over a thousand years in Church history and shows the deep reverence the Church gives to the Gospel. It reminds us that we are not just listeners of the Word—we are called to live it out.
So next time you trace that little cross on your forehead, lips, and heart, remember what you’re truly saying:
“Lord, may Your Word be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart. Amen.”

BLOOD DRIVE
Red Cross Article on our Blood Drive
Picture
L-R: St. Edmond Associate Pastor Rev. Emmanuel Dolphyne, Paul Laurenzi, and Director of the council's health events Bob Bugle. Paul was donor of the 1,000th pint donated to our council Blood Drives.
Just want everyone to know we had another VERY successful Blood Drive yesterday, as we collected 87 units from 100 donor reservations.
Our Blood Drives, in partnership with the American Red Cross, have now generated 1,082 units collected from 14 events dating back to October, 2020.
Star of the Sea Council 7297 received a certificate from the American Red Cross in appreciation of collecting 1,000 units. The donor who marked the 1,000th unit, Paul Laurenzi, also received a certificate of appreciation from the Red Cross along with a special gift bag. Paul was extremely surprised and appreciative of the recognition.
A huge “Thank You” goes out to Past Grand Knights Rich Duffy, Peter Polo and Bob Wolhar and to current Grand Knight Dave Eason and Deputy Grand Knight John Sleys along with the many Brothers of Star of the Sea Council 7297, without who’s support these blood drives would not have been possible.
Special thanks go out to Brothers Marty Foye, Jack Gifford, George Jorgensen, Fran Merlo, David Jester and his wife Judith, Chuck Mowll, Andrew Caliendo, Kevin Burke, Thomas Tully, Joe Murphy, Rich Duffy, Bob Wolhar and Hugh Cooksey for volunteering to assist with donor check-in, and especially to Hugh and Al Verratti for their invaluable assistance with set up of the Parish Hall and re-set after the event.
With the tremendous support of our Council Brothers and our Pastor Fr. Cocco these Blood Drives have benefitted thousands of people in our community and throughout the mid Atlantic.
We now have a firm date for our next Blood Drive: October 15th
